How to compare wood pellets before buying
Compare the boiler requirements, tested sample data and the complete purchase cost.
Start with the boiler manual
Check the permitted fuel type, pellet diameter and quality requirements in the appliance manual. A green bag or the word premium does not prove fuel quality. Ask for a readable test report and compare its date, sample number and methods with the information supplied for the offered fuel.
Energy, moisture and ash
The tested sample has a net calorific value of 17.9 MJ/kg, approximately 4.97 kWh/kg. Delivered heat also depends on boiler efficiency. Gross calorific value, 18.8 MJ/kg, is a different measure. Moisture is 5.97%; dry-basis ash is 0.52%. Compare ash results on the same basis, because dry-basis and as-received figures are not interchangeable. Lower ash does not remove the need for cleaning.
Durability, dimensions and storage
Mechanical durability is 98.5%, diameter 6 ± 1 mm and bulk density 695 kg/m³ for the tested sample. Handling can create fines, so inspect bag condition. Bulk density is not the weight of a pallet. Store bags in a dry place, off damp surfaces and protected from rain.
Compare the total cost
A 15 kg bag has a reference price of PLN 32.84; 67 bags contain 1005 kg and cost approximately PLN 2199.95 at PLN 2189/t. Delivery is quoted separately using postcode, quantity and unloading conditions. For orders over five tonnes, ask about price negotiation. Collection is available from one bag in Abramowice Prywatne after confirming availability.
